A Note from

September 2024
To Friends and Family,
Our observance, this year, of the 23rd anniversary of September 11 has particular resonance for me as it coincides with both Alger’s 60th anniversary and my own 30th year with the firm. Not a day goes by that I don’t reflect on the cherished friends and colleagues that we lost, and how reaching such milestones remains a testament to their legacy.
Over the past six decades, our firm has grown and evolved, but the events of 9/11 have become an indelible part of our fabric. The memory of those we lost continues to inspire and guide us, driving our firm’s resilience and dedication to investment excellence, as well as shaping our culture and our commitment to the community.
This year, our employee-led Candlelight Giving Committee has taken special care to ensure that our charitable efforts honor our lost colleague’s contributions, both within our firm and in the broader community. To commemorate our 60th anniversary, we launched the “60 for 60” Initiative, a year-long program encouraging employees to showcase their philanthropy. Employees were given the opportunity to participate in volunteer activities with their co-workers while also supporting their own charitable endeavors. To date, more than 102 employees have logged 770 individual acts of charity.
I’d like to note that since its founding in 2007, the Candlelight Giving Committee has supported over 370 charitable organizations, completed 28 blood drives, and raised more than $1.8M in total firm and employee donations.
In addition, this year Alger served as a sponsor of City Harvest’s “Share Lunch Fight Hunger” campaign. Each year, thousands of corporations and individuals in New York City join Share Lunch Fight Hunger with the goal of raising awareness and crucial funds to help City Harvest rescue and deliver nutritious food for families during the summer months, when access to free school meals may become limited. With the power of our volunteers, thousands of pounds of produce were repacked from large, bulk containers into smaller, family-sized units that community food programs could easily distribute. We also continued our work with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC), a national nonprofit food rescue organization headquartered in New York City, which redistributes excess food to people experiencing food insecurity. RLC targets both the prevention of wasted food and putting an end to hunger. To date, the organization has rescued over seven million pounds of excess food.
At this year’s 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing, spearheaded by Patrick Kelly and others, we were privileged to have over 160 participants join us. The event successfully raised more than $115,000 in support of numerous charities.
As we commemorate this 23rd anniversary of September 11th, we do so with a deep sense of gratitude and remembrance. Our thoughts are with you and your families on this day, now and forever.
Best regards,
Dan Chung
