In this video, Weatherbie Enduring Growth Portfolio Manager Joshua Bennett, CFA, describes how he and Portfolio Manager George Dai work together.

JOSH BENNETT: There was a company that we owned that George was really adamant about, their competitive advantage and really excited about. But I happened to know that this company competes directly with Amazon and a portion of its business. I would push George in a meeting, week after week, and every time we talked about this company, I would say “But, what about Amazon”? And I’m a big Amazon user. I was probably one of the early Prime users and just a big believer in Amazon and what they do. They usually figure it out over time.

I kept challenging him. And every time I challenged him, he would have to go and do more work on that company. But when he came back with better answers, what happened is, we both increased our positions in this other company. Without that challenge, he wouldn’t have had the conviction to raise his position. I certainly wouldn’t have had the conviction to raise mine. So that back and forth is really an incredibly powerful component of what we do and how we do it.

The disagreements we have as a team really make us stronger.

The views expressed are the views of Fred Alger Management, LLC (“FAM”) and its affiliates as of April 2022.  These views are subject to change at any time and may not represent the views of all portfolio management teams. These views should not be interpreted as a guarantee of the future performance of the markets, any security or any funds managed by FAM. These views are not meant to provide investment advice and should not be considered a recommendation to purchase or sell securities. Holdings and sector allocations are subject to change.

Risk Disclosures: Investing in the stock market involves risks, including the potential loss of principal. Growth stocks may be more volatile than other stocks as their prices tend to be higher in relation to their companies’ earnings and may be more sensitive to market, political, and economic developments.  A significant portion of assets will be invested in technology companies, which may be significantly affected by competition, innovation, regulation, and product obsolescence, and may be more volatile than the securities of other companies. Investing in companies of small and medium capitalizations involve the risk that such issuers may have limited product lines or financial resources, lack management depth, or have limited liquidity. Assets may be focused in a small number of holdings, making them more susceptible to risks associated with a single economic, political or regulatory event than a more diversified portfolio.  Environmental, social and governance investment criteria may limit the number of investment opportunities available, and as a result, returns may be lower than vehicles not subject to such considerations. Past performance is not indicative of future performance. Investors whose reference currency differs from that in which the underlying assets are invested may be subject to exchange rate movements that alter the value of their investments.

The following position represents the noted percentages of Alger firm-wide assets as of 1/31/22: Amazon.com, Inc., 3.93%.

ETF Investors

This ETF is different from traditional ETFs.

Traditional ETFs tell the public what assets they hold each day. This ETF will not. This may create additional risks for your investment. Specifically:

You may have to pay more money to trade the ETF’s shares. This ETF will provide less information to traders, who tend to charge more for trades when they have less information.

The price you pay to buy ETF shares on an exchange may not match the value of the ETF’s portfolio. The same is true when you sell shares. These price differences may be greater for this ETF compared to other ETFs because it provides less information to traders.

These additional risks may be even greater in bad or uncertain market conditions.

The differences between this ETF and other ETFs may also have advantages. By keeping certain information about the ETF confidential, this ETF may face less risk that other traders can predict or copy its investment strategy. This may improve the ETF’s performance. If other traders are able to copy or predict the ETF’s investment strategy, however, this may hurt the ETF’s performance. For additional information regarding the unique attributes and risks of this ETF, please refer to the prospectus.
